The operation was started in Ankara following a ceremony held at the Karsiyaka Cemetery honoring Writer Kutsiye Bozoklar who died recently. Detainees of other cities were immediately sent to Ankara.
On September 11, a criminal court of Ankara decided to put under arrest 13 of the detainees: Haci Orman, Chief Editor of the review Sanat ve Hayat and Chairman of the Foundation BEKSAV, İsminaz Ergün, employee of the Radio Democrat, Ayşe Yumli Yeter, ESP’s Istanbul representative, Sıtkı Güngör, ESP’s Tunceli representative, as well as Figen Yüksekdağ, Fatma Saygılı, Emin Orhan, Ayhan Namoğlu, Çağdaş Karakuş, Hayriye Çiçek, Mustafa Naci Toper, Cenan Altunç and Uğur Ok.
In Istanbul, Atilim correspondents Tuncay Mat and Çağdaş Küçükbattal were put under arrest together with Volkan Gedik, Fırat Çağlar and Hasan Çağın.
A former editor of the weekly Atilim, Vahit Yurttas, too is under arrest in Istanbul.
All of them are under the menace of heavy prison terms according to the Anti-Terror Law.
